Johnny Mathis Comes To Long Island

I heard a long time ago that Johnny Mathis, with classic singles such as Misty, 12th of Never, Chances Are and a Greatest Hits album in the perfect class assumed forever by Rumors, Sgt Peppers, Sweet Baby James and Tapestry will soon be appearing here in Long Island Island. I remember Johnny from the time he simply walked into a San Francisco studio having had no musical training and launched perhaps the most admired recording career of anyone save Frank. Astrid Giaberto did the same thing with Girl From Ipanema down in Rio, she walked into the studio and nailed it. Both these international  recording stars have to be 70 or close to it. Why cannot we see these types of entertainers in addition to the Stones and the Who and the Counting Crows and Norah Jones and Dave Mathews and Tracy Chapman in an adult concert television show maybe 1/2 hour in length weekly. Think about it, we have endured 10 years of American Idol (those who watch it) and although I have written that Carrie and Kelly are good enough to play Vegas or Tahoe, that is about it. Nobody even a country mile from a Johnny Mathis has been "discovered". All this while those of us we adults with appreciation for music and perhaps mature performers or contemporary artists who would take a cut to convey a message to a faltering music industry or to promote a tour, have no concert show. Soon Justin Bieber might run for office and I would not be surprised if he could sway the Idols out there into voting for him.Justin seems like a nice boy but he is no Billy Eckstein. Being mediocre is beginning to not be entertaining anymore. I am still listening to my old masterfully crafted Billy Joel albums.
