Bob Dylan Grammy Segment Was Disappointing

I often remarked that due to extenuating circumstances and outside influences and pressures Decade music starting in 1950 could beat what we have today. When I heard that Bob Dylan was doing a set on the Grammy awards, having followed him since We Shall Overcome and A Hard Days a Gonna Fall days I was waiting in great anticipation to view his performance. I have all of his recordings, I have seen him live with my wife at the Convention Hall in New Jersey. What I saw last night was not what I had anticipated with a singer songwriter of his prominence. Two young bands who were unknown to me not only were his lead in  and back up as they  gave us a cacophonous version of a speeded up and repetitious Maggy's Farm which was not really one of the better received Dylan songs of the last 40 years.
In my day we also had a teenager adoration time which included Fabian, Paul Anka, Ricky Nelson and the Everly Brothers. Their fans were in far greater numbers than the young performers of today although the money is much bigger in 2011 than in 1960. History will repeat itself. Both the artists and the kids get older. They both look different and their tastes change in music and especially with the fans, they begin to be attracted to other artists and different messengers of music. I would say the turnaround time for this transformation is maybe two years. The tween performers will see their Beatles, Kinks and Rolling Stones send them hopefully back to High School or college, wherever they left off before handing off the football.
